Brian Canty - Woodturner & Designer
I have spent over 30 years working with wood, contributing to luxury projects throughout Ireland and the UK.
Several years ago a storm felled an ash tree on our property in Trim, Co. Meath inspiring me to take up woodturning. Rather than see the tree become firewood, I began creating one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces that celebrate the natural beauty, character and history of fallen Irish trees.
My work reflects a deep connection to craftsmanship, heritage and the stories held within Ireland’s woodlands.
After a career as cabin crew with Emirates Airlines, I returned home to pursue my passion for food, sustainability and nature.
A course at Ballymaloe Cookery School sparked my interest in beekeeping, leading me to care for Ireland’s native black bees and produce pure raw honey that reflects the richness of local wildflowers.
Together, we run Bees & Trees, combining pure Irish honey with handcrafted wooden creations, each rooted in a respect for nature, sustainability and traditional craftsmanship. A celebration of nature through pure Irish honey and handcrafted wooden bowls, made from locally fallen trees.
As our collection has grown, we are proud that our handcrafted wooden creations are now available at the Irish Design Loft, Powerscourt House, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, where visitors can discover a selection of our pieces alongside the work of other talented Irish makers.
